The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Palar Agricultural College, Vellore, organized the International Day of Yoga on 21st June 2026 at the PAC Auditorium under the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” The programme aimed to create awareness among students and staff about the importance of yoga in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, and a healthy lifestyle.
The programme commenced at 7:30 AM with an invocation and opening session. Dr. K. Rajeshwaran, Staff Advisor, welcomed the gathering and emphasized the significance of yoga in maintaining mental balance, emotional stability, and physical health.
The yoga session was conducted by Mrs. V. Thavaselvi, SKY Yoga Professor, World Community Service Centre, Gudiyatham. The programme began with Guru Vanakkam, followed by Nadi Shuddhi Pranayama and various breathing exercises. Participants were guided through several yoga postures, including Surya Namaskar, Tadasana, Ekapadasana, Chakrasana, Utkatasana, and Trikonasana. The resource person explained the benefits of each asana in improving flexibility, posture, concentration, and overall well-being.
An interactive session on various mudras, namely Chin Mudra, Vayu Mudra, Prithvi Mudra, Surya Mudra, Varuna Mudra, Apana Mudra, Apana Vayu Mudra, Shunya Mudra, and Linga Mudra, was also conducted. The therapeutic and health benefits associated with these mudras were elaborated for the benefit of the participants.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from 300 students, teaching staff, non-teaching staff, and NSS volunteers. The event provided hands-on experience in yoga practices and encouraged participants to adopt yoga as a part of their daily routine for achieving holistic health and a balanced lifestyle.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Mr. J. Prabu, NSS Programme Officer, who expressed his sincere gratitude to the management, faculty members, NSS volunteers, resource person, and participants for their valuable support and active participation in making the event a grand success.
