The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Palar Agricultural College, Melpatti, organized an Anti-Drug Awareness Programme on 22 June 2026 at 12:00 PM in the PAC Lecture Hall to commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The programme was conducted with the support and guidance of Tmt. Manimegalai, Inspector of Police, Melpatti Police Station. Under her leadership, a team of police personnel from Melpatti Police Station participated in the programme and delivered an informative awareness session to the students.
During the session, the police officials highlighted the adverse effects of drug abuse and illicit trafficking on physical and mental health, academic performance, family well-being, and society at large. Students were also educated about the legal consequences of drug-related offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The resource persons emphasized the importance of self-discipline, healthy lifestyle choices, and social responsibility in preventing substance abuse among youth.
As part of the programme, an Anti-Drug Awareness Pledge was administered to all participants, reaffirming their commitment to promoting a drug-free campus and community. The event also conveyed powerful messages such as “Start Running, Stop Drugs,” “Say No to Drugs – Choose Life,” “Healthy Youth, Healthy Nation,” and “Be Smart, Don’t Start Drugs.”
The programme successfully created awareness among students and strengthened their resolve to contribute towards a healthier and drug-free society. A total of 94 students actively participated in the event.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to Tmt. Manimegalai and the police personnel of Melpatti Police Station, faculty members, NSS volunteers, and students for their valuable support and active participation in making the event a success.
