On 23.09.24, an awareness program on “Preventing Sexual Harassment and Ensuring Safety and Security” was organized by Dr. A. Vennila Mary, Chairperson of the Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell PAC . The program aimed to educate students and staff on identifying, preventing, and addressing sexual harassment.
The event started with a welcome address by Dr. A. Vennila Mary, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Extension). Dr. N. Tamilselvan, Ph.D., Principal of Palar Agricultural College, delivered an awareness address to educate participants on preventing and addressing incidents of sexual harassment and promoting a safer, more inclusive environment. Mrs. Gandhimathi, Inspector (Crime Against Women’s Wing), Mrs. Kalaiselvi, S.I. (Anti-Human Trafficking), and Head Constables Mr. Chandrasekhar, Mr. Suresh, and Mrs. Lavanya highlighted services like the Child Helpline-1098, Women Helpline-181, Child Marriage prevention, and the Kavalan SOS Mobile App, along with an awareness video emphasizing the importance of fostering vigilance. They also introduced “Police Akka,” a service designed to protect girls from cyber- crimes . Mrs. Nancy (DSWO), Social Welfare Department, Vellore, covered key topics such as the legal framework under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013, reporting mechanisms, and preventive measures to ensure a safe environment. Students engaged in interactive discussions with the panel of experts from the SP’s Office and the Social Welfare Department, Vellore. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Ezhilarasi, a second-year student.
