Introduction:
Palar Agricultural College (PAC), in a collaborative initiative with the Government Hospital, Gudiyatham, successfully organized an “Adolescent Education and Awareness Programme” on November 3, 2025. The program was designed to educate and inform the student community on critical public health issues, including HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), Tuberculosis (TB), and the importance of voluntary blood donation.
Objectives
The primary objectives of the programme were:
- To raise awareness among adolescents about the prevention and transmission of HIV/AIDS and STDs.
- To disseminate crucial information about Tuberculosis (TB), its symptoms, and treatment protocols.
- To promote the noble cause of blood donation and address common misconceptions surrounding it.
- To equip students with the knowledge necessary to make informed and responsible health decisions.

Proceedings of the Programme:
The programme commenced at 2:00 PM in the PAC Seminar Hall. The session began with a formal welcome address, setting the context and emphasizing the importance of adolescent health awareness.
The keynote session was delivered by Mr. D. Umesh Kumar, Counsellor from the Government Hospital, Gudiyatham. His presentation was comprehensive and interactive, covering the following key areas:
- HIV/AIDS & STDs: Kumar explained the modes of transmission, prevention methods (including the use of condoms), and the importance of safe practices. He stressed the need to eliminate stigma and discrimination associated with these conditions.
- Tuberculosis (TB): The session on TB focused on making students aware of the symptoms, the importance of early diagnosis, and the availability of free treatment under government schemes. The emphasis was on the complete curability of TB if the treatment course is adhered to strictly.
- Blood Donation:The resource person highlighted the critical need for regular, voluntary blood donation. He clarified myths and fears related to blood donation, explaining its health benefits for the donor and its life-saving potential for recipients.
The session was highly engaging, with students actively participating in a question-and-answer segment, which allowed for the clarification of their specific doubts and concerns.
Conclusion
The Adolescent Education and Awareness Programme was a significant success. It served as a vital platform for disseminating essential health information to the 2025 batch student. The collaboration with the Government Hospital, Gudiyatham, added immense credibility and practical value to the session. The students left the seminar better informed and empowered to protect their own health and contribute positively to community health initiatives, particularly blood donation.
