- S. Sathya, Assistant Professor (SST), organized a Hands on Workshop on Testing Seed Quality through Germination for the 2024 batch students, which was conducted on 14-11-2025 at the Seed Science & Technology Lab in the presence of Dr. N. Tamilselvan, Principal.
- Students actively participated in germination tests using top-of-paper, roll towel and sand method in maize, tomato and bhendi seeds.
- They observed epigeal and hypogeal germination types and studied essential seedling structures.
- Key structures examined included epicotyl, hypocotyl, plumule & radicle emergence and coleoptile
- During seedling evaluation, students practiced identifying normal seedlings, abnormal seedlings and dead seeds based on standard criteria.
- The workshop strengthened their overall understanding of seed quality assessment and enhanced their ability to perform reliable germination tests for quality seedling production.
