Horticulture

Department of Horticulture is the crop science deals with the production, utilization and improvement of fruits, vegetables, ornamental plants, spices, plantation crops, medicinal and aromatic plants. In order to achieve the objective of ‘lab to land’ dissemination, extension tools such as Farmers’ Training Program and Exhibitions, Trainings, Seminars, Farm Advisory Services etc., are being effectively used.
Vision of the department is to make the College a model for education and research in Horticultural science. Impart quality education in Horticulture for UG students and to undertake research on need based, location specific problems and developing technologies for crop management and sustainable productivity.

1) FARMERS TRAINING PROGRAM

 
A lecture and field demonstration were given to Palur Village farmers about “Integrated Pest Management in Vegetable crops” in two sessions organized by SSEPERS – ATMA (Tirupathur)

Farm School Training Programme:
STATE EXTENSION PROGRAMMES FOR EXTENSION REFORMS SCHEME (SSEPERS-ATMA) 2022-2023 organized Farm school training programme on IPM in Vegetable crops at Palur Village. As a part of this programme Mr. R. Devanathan (Assistant Professor – Horticulture) gave lecture to the farming communities in and around Palur village. Session I was a lecture about the cultivation practices of Solanaceae vegetables, pest and disease management and demonstration of seed treatment and seedling dip treatment with biofertilizer.
