The Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) sensitization meeting was organized by the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of Palar Agricultural College on 05.09.2024 to create awareness among students and staff members about the importance of preventing sexual harassment in the workplace and educational institution. This meeting aimed to educate participants on their rights, responsibilities, and the mechanisms available for reporting and addressing incidents of sexual harassment. The primary objective of the sensitization meeting was to raise awareness and inform participants about the legal framework, including the Provisions of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013.
The sensitization meeting began with a welcome address by Dr. A. Vennila Mary, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Extension), who highlighted the importance of creating a safe and inclusive environment. Dr. N. Tamilselvan, Ph.D., Principal of Palar Agricultural College, sensitized students and staff on the importance of preventing sexual harassment and the roles and responsibilities of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in prevention and redressal. Mr. R. Dinesh Kumar(Financial Literacy),Social Welfare & Women Empowerment Department and Mr. R. Samraj Singh, faculty member at INDSETI, Vellore, provided a detailed PowerPoint presentation on what constitutes sexual harassment, including verbal, non-verbal, and physical forms. They also covered the legal framework and reporting mechanisms, including both online and offline complaint options. All participants took a collective pledge to promote a safe and respectful environment. The awareness program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by final-year student Ms. S. Subadra.
